Clowes Fund Distributes $800,000 in Indianapolis Supporting Workforce Development, Refugees

The Clowes Fund, Inc., a family foundation established in Indianapolis in 1952, has announced its grant distributions for the 2018 funding cycle. A total of approximately $3 million will be distributed to 80 nonprofit organizations in eight states, including nearly $800,000 in Indianapolis.

In Indianapolis the foundation’s grantmaking priorities include two social services foci and honoring the philanthropic legacy of its founding donors, which includes the Clowes Collection of art (Old Masters paintings). Within social services the foundation supports workforce development and services for immigrant, refugee and asylee populations.

Indiana grants approved in 2018 include $20,000 to Indiana Legal Services for its Immigrant and Unaccompanied Children’s Legal Assistance Project; $40,000 to the Greater Indianapolis Literacy League (dba Indy Reads) for its Workplace English Pilot Program; and $20,000 to Horizon House for its Reaching for Independence and Self-Sufficiency through Employment (R.I.S.E) program.
