Key and the John Boner Neighborhood Center will help eligible low- to moderate-income members of the community file for the Earned Income Tax Credit

On February 4, 2017, KeyBank will host its annual Super Refund Saturday event at the John Boner Neighborhood Center at 9 a.m. Volunteers will provide free tax season support until they reach full capacity.

This is the 12th year Key employees will work alongside volunteers from other organizations to provide free tax preparation services to those who need it most, helping low- to moderate-income individuals and families determine their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and get more money back.

“Here in Indianapolis, we are fortunate to have a number of organizations that provide free tax prep for our neighbors who are most in need,” said Aaron Reitz, president, central Indiana market. “We have partnered with the Boner Community Center for the past nine years on this initiative because they share our commitment to helping communities thrive. Super Refund Saturday is just one example of ways we are making an impact together.”

The EITC is a refundable tax credit for low- to moderate-income individuals and families with eligible children who do not earn enough to file a tax return. Since its inception in 1975, it has been deployed as a top anti-poverty tool; 26 million people received close to $65.6 billion in EITC credits in 2016, according to the IRS.

According to the IRS, to qualify for the EITC earned income must be less than:

  • $47,955 ($53,505 if married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children
  • $44,648 ($50,198 if married filing jointly) with two or more qualifying children
  • $39,296 ($44,846 if married filing jointly) with one or more qualifying child
  • $14,880 ($20,430 if married filing jointly) with no qualifying children

According to the IRS, the maximum Earned Income Tax Credit a tax filer can receive is:

  • $6,269 with three or more qualifying children
  • $5,572 with two qualifying children
  • $3,373 with one qualifying child
  • $506 with no qualifying children

If participating in Super Refund Saturday, income tax return filers should bring these documents:

  • Valid photo ID
  • Social Security card for themselves and each dependent
  • W-2 Forms (reporting full-time wages)
  • Previous year’s tax return
  • 1099 Forms (reporting part-time work and interest income), if applicable
  • Unemployment forms, if applicable
  • Proof of childcare payments
  • Other IRS forms, as appropriate
  • Bank account information and bank routing number

The John Boner Community Center is located at 236 East 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46201.
Registration is not required. To ask questions ahead of the day, tax filers can call 317-633-8210.
