Dekko Foundation Grantees In the Pink

DEKKO FOUNDATION GRANTEES IN THE PINK!

Earlier this year some organizations within the Dekko Foundation’s grantmaking areas received an intriguing pink envelope.

The stock market appreciation of 2013 and 2014 allowed the Foundation to make strategic and timely investments in a select group of youth-serving organizations.  The opportunity was communicated through a request for proposals (RFP).  It arrived in a hot pink envelope stamped:  Grant Opportunity.

Through the RFP the Dekko Foundation wanted to test this hypothesis:  If organizations could more easily address their facility and equipment challenges, would they transfer that effort toward improved interactions with children and young people?

The Dekko Foundation encouraged capital-intense youth serving organizations (those with gymnasiums, pools, buildings and buses) across its grantmaking areas to send a proposal that would alleviate their most pressing capital need.  In all, the Foundation invested $1.4 million.  At the end of the grant period, the final grant will seek to understand: Has organizations’ focus on child and youth development been heightened?

“We feel like this RFP strengthened our relationship with these key organizations,” says Ashlee Guthrie, program officer.  “We’ll only know the true impact though, when we understand whether or not their interactions with children and youth have improved.”
