Town of Gaston Endowment Fund at Community Foundation grants $2,600 to local organizations

Monday, July 2, 2018

(Muncie, Indiana) The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., is awarding $1,300 to Wes-Del Community School Corporation and $1,300 to Cardinal Greenway.

With support from this funding, Wes-Del Community School Corporation will purchase educational furniture to support their Level 6 initiative, a program that is designed to help bridge the gap between elementary and middle school for sixth graders at Wes-Del Middle/High School. The program will include a team-teaching, modified grade level approach following the “school within a school” model that is utilized by other districts across the country. Sixth grade core academic classes will take place in a designated wing of the school with their own lockers, restrooms, and gym access. The Town of Gaston Endowment Fund grant will be used to purchase updated educational furniture to be used in the sixth grade classrooms.

Additionally, a new water fountain will be installed at the Cardinal Greenway Gaston trail head with support from the Town of Gaston Endowment Fund. It will replace a damaged fountain. The fountain will be available for use by Gaston residents utilizing the Greenway and for visitors to Gaston on the Greenway. It is the only water source north of the Muncie Depot making its functionality and placement critical for trail users.

The Town of Gaston Endowment Fund was established in 2012 to fund projects and programs that benefit the residents of the Town of Gaston and Harrison and Washington Townships.  A committee comprised of area residents reviews applications each year and makes recommendations for grants to the Board of Directors of The Community Foundation. Applications are accepted annually on May 1. The existence of this fund guarantees a steady stream of income to fund worthwhile projects in the Gaston area for years to come.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens.  The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment.  Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies.  To date, over $47 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
