Align Southern Indiana Hosts Chidcare Provider Events

Thursday, October 22, 2020

Align Southern Indiana recently hosted Child Care Provider events in Clark, Floyd Harrison, Scott and Washington counties.  During these evenings, local providers were introduced to Align’s Kindergarten Readiness Initiative, “Small starts.  Big finishes.”

Align Southern Indiana’s Kindergarten Readiness initiative focuses on having every child ready for Kindergarten through family assistance activities and collaboration with child care providers. With the help of each school district across Align Southern Indiana’s five-county service area a Kindergarten Ready checklist has been compiled to give parents, guardians, educators and childcare providers the tools necessary to help get their children ready to start their academic careers.

The Kindergarten Readiness Checklist includes a list of things which children need to know as they enter Kindergarten including general school and self help skills, as well as math and literacy subjects.

To assist in the initiative, local districts have designated a Child Care Provider Liaison to be available to these providers for questions and guidance as they are preparing students to transition to kindergarten.

Gwyn Welliver, Director of Trinity Learning Ministry an NAEYC and PTQ4 program, had this to say, “This is a great opportunity for us as childcare provides to enhance our communication with our local districts.  As we work with the liaisons, we can continue to partner in the important transition into kindergarten for our students.  A successful social/emotion and academic transition to kindergarten provides the important foundation for the future of each child.”

During the Child Care Provider events, attendees were given a professional development presentation on dealing with COVID as a child care provider.  This semi-annual event was sponsored by Duke Energy.
