11 Delaware County nonprofits receive more than $200K in grant funding from community foundation

(Muncie, Indiana) The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. awarded $208,300 to 11 nonprofit organizations during the second Quarterly Competitive Grant cycle of 2018.

The Community Foundation's purpose is to improve the quality of life in Muncie and Delaware County for this generation and generations to come. Quarterly Competitive Grants are awarded to fund projects for which there is a demonstrable community benefit in one of the following areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education and community betterment.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses, and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies. To date, more than $47 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.

Unless otherwise noted, the following grants were awarded from the Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc.

Alpha Center received $15,000 (partial funding from the Bassett Family Fund, Hamer and Phyllis Shafer Fund, and Jeanne and John Smith Unrestricted Fund) to support programming, activities, and meals for senior clients, age 60 and older.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware County received $9,300 (partial funding from the Patrick and Marilyn Cleary Fund and Hamer and Phyllis Shafer Fund) for the 2019 mentoring program.

Boys and Girls Club of Muncie received $17,500 (partial funding from Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund and Jane Harrell Buckles Fund) to defray the cost of teen programming and activities, including college visits.

AIM Collaborative received $50,000 (partial funding from the Stefan and Joan Anderson Unrestricted Fund, Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund, Louisa and Waldo Beebe Unrestricted Endowment Fund, Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) to defray the cost of the AIM Program, a collaboration between the Buley Community Center, Boys and Girls Club, Motivate Our Minds, Ross Community Center, and YMCA that provides education and recreation opportunities for students K-8th grade during school breaks.

Cardinal Greenway Inc. received $25,000 to defray the cost of trail infrastructure maintenance efforts with a focus on professionally sealing cracks in the asphalt trail surface.

East Central Indiana Regional Partnership received $10,000 to promote Muncie and Delaware County for new business investment and talent attraction.

8Twelve Coalition received $14,500 (partial funding from the John and Janice Fisher Quality of Place Endowment Fund, Linda and Connie Gregory Fund, Jeff and Beth Lang Fund, and Mary Jane Sursa Fund) to support the work, led by Greater Muncie Habitat for Humanity, of the 8Twelve Coalition. This collaboration is comprised of residents, non-profits and businesses working to revitalize the 8Twelve target area bordered by 8th Street, Memorial Street, Perkins Avenue, and Madison Street.

Indiana Youth Institute received $4,500 (funding from the Bassett Family Fund, Julian and Suzanne Gresham Fund, Jane E. Hughes Fund, KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund, and MutualBank Charitable Foundation Fund) to provide high-quality professional education, resources, and opportunities to connect for Delaware County youth-serving professionals.

Motivate Our Minds received $20,000 (partial funding from the Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund) to defray the cost of quality academic instruction for more than 100 children.

Ross Community Center received $17,500 (partial funding from the John and Janice Fisher Unrestricted Endowment Fund, Mary Kate Pingry Fund, Martin D. and Helen B. Schwartz Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund, and Charles and Claudia Sursa Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund) to support 2018 programming including preschool expansion, and afterschool and adult programs.

Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana received $25,000 (funding from the Michael O. and Nicole T. Lunsford Fund, Mid-West Metal Products Fund, Jim and Mary Rosema Fund, Shafer/Muncie Power Products Legacy Fund in memory of Joseph E. Wilson, Jeanne and John Smith Fund, and Joseph and Janet Wilson Unrestricted Endowment Fund) to support the school pantry programs at Muncie Community Schools and to support the Forward S.T.E.P.S. program.
