Director of Nonprofit Services and Sustainability - As the primary relationship manager for nearly 200 fundholders and over 300 funds, it leads the Nonprofit Sustainability Network, developing and offering significant professional development programming, services, and technical assistance as a resource hub.

What We’re Looking For:
This position is dedicated to building premier relationships with nonprofit fundholders for Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), The Indianapolis Foundation (IF), Hamilton County Community Foundation (HCCF), and Women’s Fund of Central Indiana. As the primary relationship manager for nearly 200 fundholders and over 300 funds, it leads the Nonprofit Sustainability Network, developing and offering significant professional development programming, services, and technical assistance as a resource hub. Working with Effective Philanthropy and Giving Strategies teams, this role provides exceptional customer service, supports fund management and growth, and responds to requests for proposals for fund management and other opportunities. It requires representing CICF’s values, influencing the community, and handling confidential information with high ethical standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The following functions have been determined by CICF to be essential to the successful performance of this position:
- Client Services. Providing world class experiences for nonprofit organizations who hold funds with the Foundations; working with fundholders to develop relationships of trust and encouraging them to use the full range of knowledge, services, and support CICF provides, moving their experience as a fundholder from transactional to a transformational and strategic partnership.
- Development.
a. Lead the creation and implementation of training, resources, and direct services (a resource hub) to support the work of nonprofit fundholders and other community nonprofit organizations, deploying internal expertise and external relationships to build and maintain a robust annual calendar of opportunities.
b. Cultivate and support efforts for additional contributions into existing funds and the creation of new funds and sub-funds designed to help organizations build long-term sustainability.
c. Support Director of Giving Strategies with prospect cultivation and closing of new, nonprofit fund opportunities.
- Collaboration. Foster a professional, entrepreneurial, and collaborative culture. Collaborate with the Effective Philanthropy, Giving Strategies, Community Leadership, and other teams at CICF, IF, HCCF, and Women’s Fund to maximize benefits for fundholders and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as lead manager for assigned nonprofit funds, providing proactive relationship stewardship, anticipating future needs, supporting grants and gifts, and providing administrative support.
- Assists nonprofit clients with all aspects of their endowment development and growth, including fund management.
- Makes investment/financial report presentations in conjunction with finance staff.
- Assists clients with board education, planned giving, donor solicitation, and recognition in conjunction with development staff as needed. Develops and implements educational programs for fundholders and supports training through internal initiatives.
- Identifies opportunities to expand philanthropic relationships with existing nonprofit clients through additional funds, gifts, contributions, referrals or planned gifts.
- Provides supervision and support to Nonprofit Services team members, including oversight of hiring, onboarding, workload management, performance evaluations, and professional development.
- Collaborates with the Giving Strategies team to market and sell services to key nonprofit prospects, including making sales pitches, preparing proposals and RFP (request for proposal) responses, addressing inquiries, and onboarding new fundholders.
- Fosters a collaborative team environment and works cross-functionally with other teams to ensure strategic alignment, service excellence, and long-term sustainability.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job:
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in relationship management and cultivation of clients/donors via nonprofit development, financial services, or customer/client service background with clearly demonstrated success expected.
- Familiarity with Central Indiana, its communities, critical issues, key organizations, civic leaders and resources.
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with others in an appropriate manner. This includes excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to discuss and present multiple concepts with others.
- Excellent conceptual, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and workload prioritizing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with little supervision.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to travel between multiple office locations and attend off-site events, such as community events and meetings.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Nonprofit or public sector experience is also preferred.
Working Conditions: Flexible hybrid office environment (in office three days a week). Home base–English Foundation Building in downtown Indianapolis, plus additional space in Hamilton County Community.
