Yorktown nonprofits receive $3,600 from the Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund

Monday, July 2, 2018

(Muncie, Indiana) The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is awarding $1,000 to Little Bloomers, $1,600 to Yorktown Community Schools, and $1,000 to Yorktown Public Library.

Little Bloomers will use their funding to purchase new equipment for the infant childcare room, specifically cribs, and mattresses.

The grant to Yorktown Community Schools will be used for the Yorktown High School Mentor and Ambassador Program. The mentor program pairs freshmen and new students with juniors and seniors to help the new students navigate the high school and encourage friendships across grade levels. Student ambassadors serve the school by giving tours to school visitors and supporting workshops and conferences held at the school.

The Yorktown Public Library will use their funding to support family programming that engages patrons of all ages.  The family programs, that will encourage families to visit the library together, will include activities like a One Community/One Book, a reading program in which all participating families read the same book and then attend a discussion event with snacks, games, and a movie associated with that book. Other family programming will focus on art, theater, and family literacy.

The Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund was established in 2000 by Howard Gregory, a longtime resident and leader in the community.  Howard took great pride in his community and wanted to make sure that Yorktown continued to thrive and grow long after he was gone.  In 2008 marketing and promotion efforts were relaunched for this important fund.  With significant help from the Yorktown Lions Club, an additional $30,000 was contributed to this fund.  The Town of Yorktown Endowment Fund at The Community Foundation guarantees a steady stream of income to fund worthwhile projects in Yorktown for years to come.  Applications are accepted annually on May 1.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens.  The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses, and corporations as a permanent community endowment.  Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations.  To date, over $47 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
