Wayne County Foundation Awards Spring Grant Cycle

The Wayne County Foundation has awarded $117,899 to 22 local organizations in support of programs or projects designed to enhance the spirit of the community and improve the quality of life across Wayne County.


“The wide range of projects and initiatives proposed for this cycle was especially impressive,” said Steve Borchers, the Foundation’s executive director. “We have no doubt that the ones selected for funding will have a meaningful impact on our community.”


All of the Foundation’s community grantmaking is made possible by income from unrestricted and endowed field-of-interest funds.


This is the complete list of grant awards approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors at its May meeting:

Achieva Resources Corporation, Inc.To purchase age appropriate books for the EXCEL program.$4,000.00
Animal Care AllianceTo purchase electro surgery equipment.$6,000.00
Boy Scouts of AmericaFor registration fees of Wayne County students to participate in STEM Scouts.$5,250.00
Cambridge City Main StreetFor roof replacement on the Matthias and Kline historical building.$5,000.00
Center City DevelopmentIn support of the Tech Education partnership with Earlham College.$1,500.00
Christian CharitiesIn support of the Backpack Blessings program with at least 25% to benefit the Hagerstown community.$5,000.00
Circle U Help Center, Inc.To purchase updated kitchen equipment.$3,750.00
Communities In Schools of Wayne CountyTo support Site Coordination services.$15,000.00
DiplomasFor tuition to keep 4 teen parents and 2 children in school for a whole school year.$7,200.00
Every Child Can ReadIn support of the Third Grade Academy.$5,000.00
Gleaners Food Bank of IndianaIn support of the Healthy Food for Families program.$7,500.00
Hagerstown Nettle Creek PlayersIn support of the Nettle Creek Players Summer Stock Tent Theatre Season.$5,000.00
HELP the AnimalsTo replace a portion of the roof of the H.E.L.P. Shelter.$2,725.00
Independent Living Center of Eastern IndianaTo purchase assistive devices for continued independence.$10,000.00
Indiana Women In Need FoundationFor support services of women living in Wayne County and enduring treatment for breast cancer.$3,000.00
JACY HouseIn support of the Speak Up Be Safe program.$2,000.00
Richmond Day NurseryTo purchase cots and couches for the children.$2,204.00
Richmond Parks and RecreationTo purchase a fence in Phase I of the Playground with a Purpose project.$5,000.00
Special Olympics Indiana -Wayne CountyIn support of the Wayne County Special Olympics annual summer games.$4,420.00
Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation DistrictFor Conservation Days 2017$2,000.00
Western Wayne HeritageTo publish a book in coordination with the Voices of the Past event.$1,350.00
Williamsburg Area
Community Center
For window replacement and roof repairs.$15,000.00
