(Jefferson, Indiana) Align Southern Indiana announced an upcoming collaboration with Dillard’s Green Tree Mall that will provide canned food to local schools in Southern Indiana.  During their Scentsational Glitz & Glamour Gala on Wednesday, November 14, Dillard’s will be collecting food items for students in need.

According to Indiana’s State Association of Food Banks, one in five children experience food scarcity in the state.  Locally, that represents approximately 8,456 children who arrive to schools hungry.

“Dillard’s is a family owned company that emphasizes giving back to our local communities.  We have partnered with a variety of non-profits for this event in the past, but when we learned of Align Southern Indiana’s involvement with our local school districts we knew we wanted to be involved.  The idea of students trying to be successful while not having eaten in the last 24 hours just resonated with the employees of Dillard’s Green Tree Mall,” said Cole Sea, Cosmetics Manager.

The evening of November 14, Dillard’s Green Tree Mall Cosmetics will be providing makeovers, facials, massages, brow threading and much more to their customers.  In exchange for this pampering, clients are being asked to provide canned items with pop-top lids that can be easily opened without a can opener and include the following:  green beans, corn, carrots, pears, organs, applesauce, beef stew, pasta with or without meatballs, vegetable or chicken noodle soup, tuna, chicken or canned meats, peanut butter, jelly, granola bars and microwave popcorn.

“When Cole contacted me about a collaboration, I was beyond excited.  A hallmark of Align Southern Indiana is collaborating with our businesses, schools, non-profits and governmental agencies to improve the quality life of our region”, according to Dr. Rita Hudson Shourds, President & CEO of Align Southern Indiana. “Education has been identified as the first priority by our Governing Board and this collaboration will help our most vulnerable population and we want to thank Dillard’s for their passion and commitment to Align Southern Indiana.”
