As a nonprofit membership association of and for Indiana's grantmaking community, IPA connects members to what they need to grow their impact by providing networking, educational, advocacy, and technical support. IPA represents philanthropic organizations, companies, and individuals from all 92 Indiana counties.

Position Summary

Develops, directs, and implements a comprehensive offering of IPA’s philanthropy education, networking, and collaboration programming, which includes a biennial conference, regional forums, peer communities, skill-building workshops and webinars, and cross-sector issue collaboratives.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Directs the development and implementation of an annual calendar of educational programs on relevant topics for all IPA members in collaboration and coordination with Director of GIFT Programming (community foundation-focused programs).
  2. Researches and identifies timely, cutting-edge topics of interests to IPA members that seeks to elevate the effectiveness of philanthropy in Indiana. 
  3. Maintains contact and familiarity with members and other thought-leaders in the local and national philanthropic sector to identify developing trends, needs, and interests, and works with internal staff to design and deliver services and programming around emerging interests.
  4. Manages partnerships with educational programs, capacity builders, and universities in the sector.
  5. Collaborates with relevant staff to schedule, plan, and implement programs, and manages quality control for implementation of programs including coordinating equipment, registration, catering, and room set-up.
  6. Works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to provide content for all program marketing communications.
  7. Maintains knowledge of effective adult education practices; evaluates the success of training using surveys, assessments, and other tools; and adjusts future programs in a cycle of continuous improvement.
  8. Organizes and provides meeting logistics and programming content for peer communities and networking groups.
  9. Serves as primary staff support to issue collaborative chairs, managing logistics, research, bookings, and any task necessary to implement the coordinated efforts which evolve from the effort.
  10. Manages IPA’s Consulting Services and serves as primary staff contact.
  11. Seeks grant support for grantmaker professional development and targeted initiatives that enhance learning.  
  12. Works with the President/CEO to develop and monitor IPA’s budget and other financial reports, and specifically manages the budget related to the department’s activities.
  13. Responds to requests for technical assistance from member organizations with timely, accurate, and relevant information.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
     

Essential Skills and Experience to be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree required—major in philanthropic studies, nonprofit management, or education is preferred.  
  • At least three years’ experience at a grantmaking organization is required.
  • A background in education and/or event planning is a plus.
  • Project management experience, including utilization of project management tools to create and manage project plans and workflow.
  • Proficient with basic technology platforms and programs such as Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with diverse software including content management, customer relationship management, and other systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage, and execute multiple projects.
  • Self-starter, with ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Proven customer service ethic (internal and external) and high expectations for quality.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Unwavering commitment to IPA values and mission.
  • Proven “whatever it takes” attitude and approach to work.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.

Physical Requirements of Position

  • The majority of the role is located inside IPA’s office.
  • Evening and weekend work is required when project delivery dictates.
  • Regular use of keyboard.
  • Consistent sitting for many hours at one time.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, and stoop.
  • Ability to drive statewide occasionally.
