Join the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance (IPA), a powerful network of foundations, corporations, and other social investors working together to lead change, improve lives, and lift communities through effective philanthropy. Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) is an initiative of IPA and Lilly Endowment Inc., which has supported the development of a community foundation in each of Indiana's 92 counties. IPA is home to the technical assistance component of GIFT, which is supported by the Endowment. IPA's GIFT Technical Assistance team offers hands-on support and professional development to Indiana community foundation staff and boards.

Position Summary

The Director of GIFT Technical Services is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with a primary focus on supporting the Indiana community foundation field through quick response technical assistance. The Director of GIFT Technical Services will play an integral role in the GIFT Technical Assistance team’s educational and networking events, programming, and communications for the Indiana community foundation field. Essential skills include good communication, self-motivated, focused on learning and growth, willingness to work in a team environment, and excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. In additional to one-on-one assistance to community foundations, this role will be involved in coordinating the delivery of the core programming at GIFT, in conjunction with other team members. Growth potential includes a greater role developing new programs and delivery methods, participating and contributing to the vision and themes of IPA programming, connecting and learning with our state and national peers, and a greater development of expertise in the operations and all roles and functions of community foundations.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Competency and pursuit of greater in-depth knowledge in the core functions of community foundations including community leadership, managing funds, financial management, grant making policies and procedures, and board governance; ensuring that GIFT programming and resources are consistent with current laws and best practices.
  2. Respond to one-on-one requests for technical assistance from Indiana community foundations, connecting members to content experts and advisors as necessary. 
  3. Work closely with new community foundation CEO’s to orient them and connect them to GIFT Technical Assistance resources.
  4. Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the resource library of technical resources, webinars, white papers, policies, and templates core to the operations and functioning of community foundations.
  5. Support IPA programs and meetings by organizing content, preparing program materials, and assisting in the execution of webinars and other programming, as requested. 
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Desireable Qualifications & Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree, certifications, and/or additional relevant experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a community foundation in a leadership role that was responsible for a variety of executive level functions. 
  • Proficient with basic technology platforms and programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.   
  • Knowledge and experience with the fund accounting platforms used by community foundations is desirable.
  • Grant writing and development experience an added asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written.
  • Strong ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Well-developed relationship building skills with multiple stakeholder interests. 
  • Perform as a self-starter.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular use of keyboard.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, and stoop.
  • Flexible schedule with regular (weekly) meetings in Downtown Indianapolis.  
  • Regular travel around the State of Indiana.
  • Must reside in Indiana
  • Consistent sitting for many hours at one time.
