Department Information
The Fund Raising School offers 20 public courses, four certificates, and customized training designed to bolster the fundraising efforts of professionals, board members, and volunteers in the nonprofit sector. Our alumni meet or exceed their fundraising goals at a rate higher than the national average due to in-depth curriculum informed by leading-edge research from the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. Public courses are taught in-person in Indianapolis as well as other cities across the United States, while custom training is delivered at the locations of partnering organizations around the world. The Fund Raising School has a strong online presence via virtual and asynchronous courses as well as through quarterly webinars and a weekly podcast.

Job Summary
Through innovation and expertise, the Associate Director, Curriculum Design ensures that The Fund Raising School (TFRS) remains on the leading edge of research-based content and curriculum in public courses, custom training, webinars, and podcasts. This position is responsible for identifying and creating new courses and certificates while also updating current courses at the highest levels of quality and relevance. The ideal candidate will have capability to understand research studies and academic journal articles and have ability to translate research-based findings into practical, professional development curriculum for adult learners in an executive education environment.

Fundamental Responsibilities:

In coordination with educational leadership, faculty, and/or staff, designs curriculum for students, courses, degree programs, or schools.

  • Consults with faculty to determine curricular needs and identify gaps; creates course objectives and outcomes to reach targeted learning.
  • Reviews proposals to modify existing course curriculum and create new courses; ensures accuracy of information and determines whether proposal aligns with standards and objectives for the course.
  • Assists with preparation and dissemination of course materials, such as course syllabi, textbook selection, course packs, and other related materials.
  • Performs evaluation and assessment activities, ensuring consistency across purview, including observation of courses, preparation of course evaluation results, development of reports and outcomes for accreditation review, and analysis of feedback from faculty regarding curricular outcomes.
  • Manages curriculum mapping process. May take on special projects or escalated curriculum issues.
  • Makes process recommendations to manager for improved operational efficiency

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The associate director also serves as a core member of The Fund Raising School’s faculty while recruiting, training, scheduling, and overseeing the school’s adjunct faculty. This senior management position also is responsible for creatively identifying new opportunities while advising the assistant dean for external relations.

  • Create and update curriculum for The Fund Raising School’s public courses, custom training, webinars, and podcasts. Responsibilities include in-person, asynchronous, and virtual teaching formats. Ensures that The Fund Raising School’s public and custom training curriculum includes the latest, relevant research from the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and other trusted sources.
  • Recruit, train and schedule all faculty – full time and adjunct – to teach for The Fund Raising School while also serving as a core faculty member of The Fund Raising School.
  • Exercise primary responsibility to assign faculty for public courses while coordinating with the Associate Director – Custom Training for assignment faculty for custom courses. Review course evaluations of faculty performance and take all necessary steps to ensure quality control. Recruit and train new faculty as needed to fill identified subject-matter, demographic, and geographic gaps.
  • Advise the assistant dean for external relations on opportunities, issues and challenges encountered by The Fund Raising School, and raise philanthropic support for The Fund Raising School.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or doctorate in philanthropic studies, nonprofit management, education, or a related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years in a related field

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Preferred

  • Designation with a Certificate in Fund Raising Management (CFRM) or as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)
  • Designation with certification or a similar credential in adult talent development (ATD)

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
