GRANTING FOR NOW INVESTING FOR THE FUTURE

We are known in our community for our grantmaking, but could we be doing even more to invest in the future of our communities?  Mission-related and program-related investments can complement grantmaking in significant ways.

Mission-related and program-related investments has been a hot topic for many in the foundation world for several years. But understanding the ins and outs of these tools can be incredibly complex, and knowing where to get started can be more than daunting for most. With that in mind, we will start from the ground up with definitions, how to’s and practical applications.

Goals for the day are to learn:

  • associated terms, definitions, and the wide range of options,
  • how they each work in the real world,
  • which projects to choose,
  • basic mechanics of “how to” (policies, forms, legal and tax implications, management, board and staff buy in, evaluation/measurement), and
  • about the practical ups and downs of those already out there doing it with success.

This workshop is designed for foundation staff and board members, finance/investment committee members, and auditors.
