Skills-Based Volunteering 201: How to Scope and Execute High-Impact Pro Bono Projects

An extension of Day 1’s Skills-Based Volunteering (SBV) 101, this hands-on training will give participants a deeper understanding of how to successfully plan, manage, and measure pro bono projects. Common Impact will share insights and best practices from its two decades of experience in SBV, exposing participants to the opportunities and challenges associated with pro bono, as well as how they can connect SBV outcomes to greater philanthropic mandates and work with their grantees.

Learning Objectives

  • Be able to assist nonprofit partners in assessing their organizational readiness for skills-based volunteering, identifying their capacity-building needs and scoping suitable pro bono projects with clear, measurable deliverables.
  • Understand how to recruit (and manage) qualified skills-based volunteers who are a match for your grantee’s project needs and organizational culture.
  • Build buy-in to engage senior leaders and other stakeholders at your company or foundation. Define the value of an SBV project by quantifying the investment required, the tangible and intangible value it would produce, and other outcomes.
