Mastering Board Performance and Strategic Planning
Bring your board chair and committee members to this workshop for drivers of high-performing boards and guidance on effective strategic planning.
High-impact boards and committees satisfied in their work devote time to strategy-related tasks. In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how to apply leading practices in management structures, operational planning, and strategic priorities to your organization.
This workshop begins with Jodi Snell of Hedges, who will uncover key characteristics of a dual leadership approach and share ideas to successfully align and engage your board, committees, and staff. Snell will guide you through a key assessment tool to use with others within your organization to strengthen governance practices. Your team will walk away with a clear understanding of helpful frameworks of high-performing boards in the areas of:
- Diverse board recruitment, election, and onboarding practices
- Fundraising practices and expectations focused on engaging the entire board
- Active and effective committee responsibilities, structures, and accountability processes
- Board term limits and offboarding
- Staff and board roles and responsibilities
In the afternoon, Jan Frazier of Planning Plus will provide a Leadership Institute session concentrating on tenets of sound strategic planning that are grounded in practical experience. These tactics will hold whether you engage an outside consultant or if you prefer to facilitate your own session. During this portion of the workshop, you’ll discover:
- How to move from strategic to operational planning
- Considerations for determining key stakeholders to bring to the table
- Ways to better define vision, mission, and values statements
- Components of an environmental scan, including use of the traditional SWOT analysis
- Effective approaches for facilitating a planning session
- Success in crafting strategic initiatives in outcome-oriented statements
To make the most out of this session we recommend bringing a copy of your current mission statement and most recent strategic plan.
