Explore ways foundations are supporting the growth of lifelong philanthropists through youth programming and next-gen engagement.

Featuring the Greater Houston Community Foundation and the O’Neill Foundation, this webinar will share different ways to engage youth—from birth to young adulthood—along their philanthropic journey.

The Greater Houston Community Foundation takes a multi-generational approach to its philanthropy through two initiatives: Family Meetings and Family Giving Circles, involving families with students in grades 7-12. From educational deep dives into a selected issue on Family Philanthropy Day, to site visits and grantmaking, youth are exposed to the operations of the foundation, building sustainability for its future donors.

The O’Neill Foundation is a family foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, with a philosophy that family members should be involved “from birth.” The foundation involves youth by including them in virtual and in-person site visits; through recognition of service awards, grantmaking, and biannual convenings; and through a Next-Gen gathering. They are also exploring opportunities to engage next-gen leaders through college and beyond.

Explore

  • Varied methods and approaches to involving youth in the grantmaking process.
  • Insight into the benefits of giving the reins over to youth leaders.
  • Challenges in engaging young adults after high school.
